It started with the headband. That orange strip of fabric has always been the thing people cross the finish line for – and it still is. The medal was never meant to replace it. It was always meant to add to it.
Year one, we introduced obstacle medals: different designs built around the moments that define a Tough Mudder. Year two, we went interlocking, creating medals that connected to tell a bigger story. Year three changed things properly. We introduced the hex: a collectable system that snapped into the centre of your medal and gave people a reason to keep coming back across a whole season. Year four is here. And we think it’s the best one yet.
The 2027 Medal
The 2027 medal is cast in silver with a rugged finish. At the centre is our iconic running man surrounded by sweeping flames. At the bottom, the hex. Flip it over and there’s space to mark your challenge with an engraving opportunity, or for your purchasable Muddertab.
The link connecting the medal to the lanyard doubles as a bottle top opener, perfect for cracking open a well earned beer post event.
The hex isn’t just a distance marker. It’s the first piece of something bigger – because the 5K, 15K, and Infinity hexes each tell a different part of the same story. Complete all three in a season, and they come together as the Trifecta medal. More on that below.

The Trifecta
Complete the 5K, the 15K, and the Infinity in a single season, anywhere in the world that holds a qualifying event, and you earn the Trifecta medal.
Three distances test genuinely different things, and that’s the whole point. The 5K is about showing up. The 15K is about pushing past what you thought you could do. The Infinity is about the people around you as much as the distance. Completing all three in a season means you’ve done all of it. The Trifecta medal is assembled from the three hexes you’ve already earned – the 5K, 15K, and Infinity hexes snap together into one piece. It’s not handed to you. It’s built from what you’ve already done.
Now in its second year, the Trifecta has more stackable coins, more milestones, and more ways to build on what you started in 2026. Read here for the easiest methods to conquer.
The Multi-Trifecta Hexes
More than one is a habit. Each additional Trifecta you complete earns you the next coin in the series: a singular hex stamped with your multiplier. Starting at X2 and running all the way to X10 (for now), you earn one coin for every Trifecta you complete. They sit inside your Trifecta medal, building over time into a physical record of how many times you decided to come back.

The Infinity Buckle
Reach 50K of cumulative Infinity distance and you earn the Infinity Buckle – a large, diamond-shaped silver piece with purple accents and its own hexagonal 50K coin. It’s the hardest piece of hardware in the collection to earn, and the most distinctive. If you’re tracking your Infinity distances across seasons, 50K is the number.
